Asunto:Re: msdtcw.exe crashes on startup

MSDTCW.EXE is the MS Distributed Transation Coordinator. It is part of
Personal Web Server. It may also be part of other programs -- I don't know.
I just know that I found it there. (It also appears in NT SP5, but that
wouldn't seem to be relevant to your case. BTW, one way to search for this
on the KB seems to be as: MS DTC. There are a separate 60 or so articles
that come up for this that I haven't examined -- additional to those that
appear when I search on MSDTCW. If nothing here solves the problem, you
might want to search those.)

MSKB article Q195759 says that, by default, it is configured to execute at
startup. Apparently this is true on your system. To prevent it from
launching at startup, you can make a Registry change. This may or may not
solve the specific problem you are having (it is information originally
designed to solve a different problem, but I'm being resourceful here), but
it's a good place to start. Backup your Registry, then make the following
change. Find this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices

Delete the value for MSDTC. (You should also be able to disable it
temporarily by launching MSCONFIG, clicking the Startup tab, and unchecking
the box for this entry.)

This stands a good chance of resolving your problem.

In the event that it doesn't, here is some more general information: An
Invalid Page Fault is a memory-behavior error. It can be caused by too
little RAM; too little free hard drive space in the partition housing the
swap file; poor memory management choices by the user; or programming
errors. Usually, two programs are mentioned in the error message, though in
your case only one is mentioned. Standard troubleshooting involves starting
with the namedprogram(s), either by running repair utilities, replacing
implicated modules, uninstalling the program(s) altogether for diagnostic
purposes, or reinstalling one or both for diagnosis and/or repair. Nearly
always, this problem first appears soon after you have made software,
hardware, or configuration changes to your computer, and can be traced to
those changes.
