You would have to insert the movie following these steps:
1. Select "Insert" | "Object..." menu item.
2. Select "Create from file" button.
3. Give the movie file name in the File box.
4. Click OK.
5. Select "Edit" | "Media Clip Object" | "Edit" menu item.
6. Select "Edit" | "Options" menu item.
7. In the Options dialox box, put a check against "Control
Bar On Playback" checkbox. Make sure you give some text in
the Caption box - I normally use a few words describing
the movie.
8. Click OK.
9. Click elsewhere on the slide to return to PowerPoint.

When the slide show runs, you would have the Pause/Play
and Stop buttons in addition to the tracker.

If you want additional controls like volume and mute
control, you would have to use Windows Media Player on the
slide.

Hello,

You can do this natively in PowerPoint 2002 or 2003
without having to use VBA or any ActiveX controls.

Simply use the Play, Pause and Stop "Movie Action" effects
(available from the Custom Animation taskpane when a movie
is selected) and then adjusting the effect options for
each to be triggered when you click on other shapes in the
slide (for example, shapes labelled, Play, Pause and Stop).
