Microsoft updates

Can anyone help me please.
I have Microsoft Updates enabled.
When I get a message that an update is ready for installation a yellow
shield icon appears in the tray.
I follow the instructions to update.
The update concludes.
The yellow shield disappears
I restart my computer in accordance with the instructions.
The yellow shield reappears and I have to go through the process again.
This damn shield will not go away.
What am I doing wrong please?
Is the update actually installed?
How can I tell?

Norman

Hi,

you can go to the file windowsupdate.log in c:\windows and see what updates
have been installed recently and possible error messages .

Also you can go to c:\windows and look for files like kb*****.log to see the
updates that has been already installed in you machine.

Note ; in tools/folder options/wiews make sure you are able to see
protected files
