Graphics trouble

I had an Excel graphic that looked perfectly; saved with an Excel book
yesterday.
Today, when I opened the Excel book, the graphic area is a grey rectangle
and the graphis is not visible. If I point on it the graphic appears, but it
disappears again as soon I retire the pointer.
I have not changed the office software (2003)

it's a configuration option to hide/show embedded objects.
-> you can 'correct' it within [menu] tools > options > view_tab > objects_section
choose: show all ;)
