Help!! Defrag hang; now win98 boot problems

30/08/2004 - 02:13 por newmem | Informe spam
My machine was working a fine but a little slow so started a defrag. Hang
after 82% completion. No response to Alt-Ctrl-Del at all. Reset machine -
now when I start the machine, it beeps continously (like a siren). The
monitor says "check signal" and then turns off. I pressed "Ctrl" but the
beeping does not stop and there is nothing on the monitor. I put in the boot
floppy disk in the drive and reset again. There is no attempt to read the
drive. I can only turn off the machine to turn off the beeping.

I have been trying all day to get it to boot.

I would appreciate any help here as I am completely lost !!

Thanks!!

ryan

This it is a Spanish forum, next time try post it your question in the
correct language

YOU NEED TO KNOW THE MAKE OF YOUR BIOS, SEE YOUR MOTHERBOARD HANDBOOK OR
LOOK ON THE CHIP

The computer POST (Power On Self Test) which tests the computer insuring
that it meets the necessary system requirements before booting up. If
the computer fails the POST the computer then returns a beep code
indicating what is causing the computer not to post the POST. Generally
if the computer POSTs properly you will receive a single beep (with some
computer BIOS manufacturers it may beep twice).

Who is your bios manufacturer?, Award, Phoenix, AMI... ?

Thanks fermu (fernando)...my motherboard make is OZZO. I need to check the
BIOS make ..I'll let you know.

First, sorry about my poor english. I must to practice more... I hope
that you can understand me.

well, i think that the motherboard Ozzo mounts bios award, or at least
their beep codes are equivalent.

In the award bios, a Continuous beeping indicates a memory or video
problem, The most common cause is a memory failure, it is more likely
that the memory itself has gone bat. Try with other memory but i don't
know if you find it, your motherboard seems very old... I think Ozzo
must be out of business, their website is down.

Also you can verify that the memory is seated in the banks correctly
