SAN FRANCISCO, febrero 19.- Terminar con los cables es uno de los objetivos
de Intel, según los señalado por Patrick Gelsinger, uno de los principales
ejecutivos de la firma, al momento de presentar una importante iniciativa
relacionada con nuevos estándares inalámbricos, junto a representantes de
otras compañías.
En su presentación, Gelsinger hizo funcionar un disco duro y una cámara de
video que transmitieron información a una considerable velocidad sin el uso
de cables, aprovechando la novedosa especificación Wireless USB.

Basada en una plataforma de radio denominada Ultra Wideband, Intel está
promoviendo junto a otras empresas, el desarrollo de esta tecnología que
permite transferencias a una velocidad cercana a los 480 Mbps , la misma
ofrecida por el estándar USB 2.0.

Con un bajo consumo de energía y la mencionada velocidad de transferencia,
esta nueva modalidad de comunicación se transformaría en una opción
particularmente interesante para conectar discos duros, impresoras,
proyectores o cámaras digitales a un PC, cumpliendo un rol que actualmente
no han resuelto del todo las tecnologías Bluetooth y WiFi.

La iniciativa busca transformarse en una opción económica y sencilla -para
fabricantes y usuarios- al tradicional estándar USB que actualmente, según
datos de Intel, es usado en de mil millones de dispositivos.

Hola Andres, la noticia es realmente interesante.
Recuerdo algún tiempo atras cuando todavía estaba en pruebas el 802.11a y el
802.11g no existia, que uno de los "beneficios" del "gran" ancho de banda
era trasnmitir video de alta calidad (Mpeg2/DVD) desde un sistema central
(hoy sería el XP Media Center Edition) a pantallas gigantes de LCD remotas
(similar a los Smart Display)
