had this same problem and just fixed it for good. I have the NF650SLIT-A
motherboard and Nvidia 8800GT video card, and it was with the drivers for
one or the other causing it. Sometimes the sound card would vanish, or
the
network card, the firewall and windows update wouldn't work, I was
screwed.
What I did was download the current drivers and put them in the Nvidia
folder for both, then removed every Nvidia driver and rebooted. When it
the
wizard comes up to find new hardware, point it to the folders for each,
don't run the install program. What this did was put just the bare bones
drivers on the system that are required, without all the Nvidia baggage
that
was causing svchost to spike the CPU. The system works perfect now,
everything works and the svchost is not doing anything on it's own to hog
cpu ticks anymore.
This was right up there on the list of maddening problems, but if you
have
it and an Nvidia product, try this, it worked for me. It's something
caused
by one of the extra programs they install when you use the installer
program
to put the drivers there.

PARIÓ) QUE DECIA QUE ERA PARA VISTA 64 BITS Y NO FUNCIONABA, ME DEJABA LA CPU
AL 100% CADA VEZ QUE ENTRABA EN LAS PROPIEDADES DEL SONIDO O INTENTABA
ESTABLECER CONVERSACIÓN DE SONIDO POR MESSENGER. ASÍ QUE TENDRE QUE
RESIGNARME CON LOS ALTAVOCES USB.

El audio está integrado en la placa base, la placa base es de la marca
BIOSTAR y el modelo es G6100 AM2 y la tarjeta de red es inalambrica pci
SMCWPCIT-G 108MBPS. Como ya te dije le he instalado los controladores de sus
respectivos fabricantes y nada de nada, así que opté por dejar los drivers de
ambos que windows instalaba por defecto al ser detectados.
