Problem with DVD Burner

Today I wanted to burn a DVD (DVD-RW) the system asked me to format th
disk. Afetr it started formatting I aborted it but the system would not
open the DVD compartment so I had to shut down my PC.
Now when i want to play the DVD in my DVD player the error I am getting is
Disc Error.

PS The disc was finalised in my DVD recorder before processing it. When I
put the disc also back into the recorder I also can not unfinalise it so I
can at least view it. I want to know if I have lost the video and if I
have any way of recovery it?????
