I am having problems formatting a drive with W/ME update
from W/98 on. I
would like to reformat and install W/98 SE, everything
goes well ,booting up
from the floppy etc until I ask it to format the c drive
and it says windows
no longer supports, format/s command, what am I doing
wrong?

You must write the unit drive letter and an space between the letter and
"/s" (format c: /s)

It isn't necessary to write the startup files to the hard disk. You can also
"format c:" without "/s". Later, the system's instalation will write the
startup files.

Kindest regards from Spain. (You wrote to an spanish group. Excuse me if my
english is not good enough). :-)

Un saludo.

For a new clean OS install I go to the hard disk manufacturer site and
download the utility top make a bootable floppy. With this you can erase
the old partition & make a new FAT32. For example, Seagate haves the
Ontrack Disk Wizard.
