Ya es oficial! Os pego el anuncio en inglés, pero básicamente se explica que se alarga el ciclo de vida de soporte de Windows 98 y Millennium Edition hasta el 30 de junio de 2006:

Key Points:

· PSS paid incident support for Windows 98/98SE and Windows ME is now
available through June 30, 2006

· Through June 30, 2006, customers can request security fixes for
Windows98, Windows 98SE and Windows ME and the most current version of their
components through normal assisted support channels. Microsoft will review
these requests and provide an appropriate response for the given issue..

· Windows 98, Windows 98 SE and Windows ME downloads for existing
security issues will continue to be available through regular
assisted-support channels at no charge until June 30, 2006.

· Self-help support will be available until at least June 30, 2007

· No-charge incident support and extended hotfix support for Windows
98/98SE ended June 30, 2003

· No-charge incident support and extended hotfix support or Windows ME
ended December 31, 2003



Details:

Windows 98 and Windows 98 SE support was scheduled to end on January 16,
2004. Microsoft continually evaluates customer need to determine if
adjustments to our support policies need to be made. While Microsoft has
done a good job of communicating the Microsoft product support lifecycle
guidelines to customers in the majority of markets, we found that the
smaller and emerging markets needed a bit more time. Based upon current
support volumes and customer feedback in these regions, a decision has been
made to provide additional support for Windows 98,Windows 98 SE and Windows
ME.



Internet Explorer support on Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, and Windows ME

Microsoft will provide the following level of support Internet Explorer 6.0
SP1 (or current version) from Jan 17, 2004 through June 30, 2006:

· PSS Paid incident support

· Through June 30, 2006, customers can request security fixes for
Windows98, Windows 98SE and Windows ME and the most current version of their
components through normal assisted support channels. Microsoft will review
these requests and provide an appropriate response for the given issue.

· Extended hotfix support will end Jan 16, 2004.



Windows Media Player and other Windows 98, Windows 98SE and Windows ME
Components

Microsoft will provide the following level of on the current shipping
versions of Windows 98/98SE and Windows ME components (such as Windows Media
Player 9) from Jan 17, 2004 through June 30, 2006:

Segun me ha parecido entender aqui, para IE 5.5 SP2 ya no habra nuevas correcciones ¿no?

El soporte para IE 5.5 terminó el 31 de diciembre de 2003, según los datos de Microsoft. La única nota al respecto es la recomendación (que apoyo completamente) que se hace de actualizarse a IE 6.
