no consigo k funcione bien xp

No instalaes las Norton SystemWorks.
Causan malfuncionamiento en muchas ocnfiguraciones de hardware (aunque "suene" a increible).

CReo que tu problema son las norton system works. EL antivirus, tienes que
actualizarlo completamente para que funcione bien (me refiero a
actualizarlo-reiniciar-actualizarlo-reiniciar... hasta que te diga que
todos los productos estan actualizados)

Y sí, instalar el service pack 1 y todas las actualizaciones de windows
update (salvo la del parche en catalán si no quieres ver el windows en ese
idioma) es casi una obligación.

El fallo lo tienes en el Norton, concretamente en el LiveUpdate (en principio).

Vuelve a instalar dejando solamente el firewall del XP y olvídate de la porquería del Norton.
