problems with serial ports

i have to connect my satellite receiver via COM port, with a null modem
cable. but it doesn't work on XP! it just cant detect a device connected.
I've heard that I have to download a dll
and put it somewhere and it will work. what and where? thanx.

The cable must be a null-modem one, are you sure it is? The internal wiring is as
mentioned (2-3,3-2, 5-5).

I don't know such program but for sure the setting for the comms is somewhere there.

Make sure as well that the COM port is properly installed under control
panel-system-hardware devices. You may have the port disabled on the bios.

No drivers are required, we talk about a single serial communication. But the speed
has to match the hardware decoder one, and for that you need to set it from the flashing
program. Most common is 9600.
Try opening the hyperterminal and check whether you can open a communication with the
serial port. The port may be already in use by some modem or external device.

I'm not sure it's a null-modem, i got it as a null-modem, but nothing is
sure. Actually, it was male-female, but i had to use a gender changer and
now its both side female. i'm not an expert for those kinds of things :(

they are enabled in the bios. and properly installed.
