My Norton System Works recently detected W32,Swen,A@mm by Virus Scanner &
Auto-Protect. It automatically quarantined the following files and placed
them in "Backup Items" after deletion from my computer:
akgwl.exe
akgwlzj.exe
bupma.exe
bupmaad.exe
cgk.exe
cgkcn.exe
dhhz.exe
dhhzws.exe
fgnqaatb.exe
fwkiwkzm.pif
gqtwo.exe
Patch85.exe
They were all temporary internet files.
I was directed to Symantec's web site to access the Removal Tool for this
virus and proceeded to download this tool, saving it as FixSwen.cmd (as
suggested) on my desktop.
It was also recommended that System Restore be disabled so the worm wont be
accidentally restored at a later date, etc. If I do this I presume I will
lose all previous Restore Points. I would prefer to keep these Restore
Points if possible. Is it really necessary to disable System Restore?
On doing a further virus scan there appears to be no infected files. Do I
need to actually run the Removal Tool or has everything already been fixed?
I've never been infected with a virus before, so I'm not absolutely sure
what needs to be done. Hoping someone can help me...
My Operating System is Windows XP Home.
