My DVD/CD ROM cannot read or play any type of disc.

1st you must understand post to right newsgroup.
(jp = japanese, de = german, kr = korean something like that)
and also each news group have gategorized by localization and products.

If you say you had somthing in you PC and Norton Anti-virus clean it.
you can see what happend in noton anti-virus log
I don't know which version you use.
but open Norton antivirus
(from start > Proigram > Norton Antivirus / or just double click on Norton
Antivirus icon on desktop or taskbar)
click report > activity Log. > View report.
write down what happen and post right news group.
(like if you use windows xp os and you use english post to
microsoft..public.windowsxp.general)

also check you event viewer Log, If you ahve any error, post event ID and
sourece and description.
(Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer)
